Note on Research Costs and Scholarships
We welcome applications from all students, domestic and international students. To be eligible for our automatic 100% scholarships, you must have 1) Unweighted minimum GPA of 3.9/4.0 or equivalent; 2) SAT of 1550 or higher or ACT of 35 or higher. In addition, students who have taken one of AP|IB|A-level courses and earned an average score of 4.5|43|A*A*A or higher in all courses related to the fields they hope to conduct research will have a clear advantage. International students submitting O-level grades must be in the 99th percentile of their O-level grading system.
While we proudly offer 100% scholarships to a select number of students, we do not offer all students 100% scholarships. It’s important to understand that research is never truly “free.” High-quality research involves real costs — including compensating experienced research mentors, accessing paywalled published research papers, specialized data and academic resources, and supporting the dedicated administrative team who ensure the program runs smoothly at the highest level we operate.
In any economic setting, these costs must be covered by someone. Even public goods — such as libraries or public parks — are funded through taxes or donations. Similarly, research conducted at universities is often supported by government grants, private endowments, or institutional budgets, which cover the salaries, data access, and resources that make such work possible. That is why you can cold email a professor and the professor will allow you conduct research under his or her supervision because the professor is being paid by the institution whose facilities are being used, and the said institution has covered all costs. For private research programs like ours, the situation is not the same. We must pay everyone who works for us, just like the university or any institution does. The higher the quality of the research mentor, the higher we must compensate them to keep them. We thus expect every applicant to our program to be reasonable enough to understand this simple economics.
If you seek to work with a professor at a university without paying program tuition, it’s typically because that professor’s time and resources have already been funded through these other sources. In our case, as an independent research program, we must directly cover the expenses of delivering world-class mentorship and research infrastructure.
We offer 100% scholarships to a few exceptional students each year, and all students are welcome and encouraged to apply. However, outside of these awards, participation requires tuition to ensure we can continue to provide the highest-quality research experience to every participant. Thus, please do not approach us for "free" research. You either get our 100% scholarship, or you pay tuition to attend our program. Tuition is either full or reduced depending on your GPA.
Thank you for your understanding.
